Settling back in

So, “re-entry” has been interesting after our trip.  Betsy has struggled with it.  It’ll settle down I know, but she’s having a tough time with it.

So I got here at the weekend, and have spent a few days settling in.  The weather has been super co-operative which is great.  I rented a car in Orlando on Saturday (it’s cheap), so we took that back to Tampa airport on Monday to find that they’ve moved the car rental centre off airport.  That’s ok, but it was slightly confusing for a short while, then I had to find Betsy who had driven up to collect me.

Today (Wednesday) was fun.  I booked our Jeep Cherokee in for a service.  Drove the 50 minutes to the dealer.  Told it would be maybe two and a half hours as they had a recall notice to deal with.  I said “ok”.  Two and a half hours later I discovered they hadn’t even started on my car ! 😩😩😩😩😩😩😩 I told them to ‘pull it’ and I’d leave.  What a waste.

So, tonight, I’m giving thanks for gin !

We should hopefully have a calm day tomorrow.  Then Friday we head to Alabama again.  It’s also Betsy’s birthday 😍😍😍🎂🎂🎉🎉🍾🍾🍧🍧🍸🍸🍹🍹🍷🍺🍺🎂🎂🎂🍾🎈

We are staying at the Grand Bohemian Hotel again.  Nice place.  I imagine we will get some photos during our time there.  Saturday we have dinner together to celebrate Betsy’s birthday, and Monday we drive back to Florida.

And finally…(for this trip)

So, like everything, all good things come to an end.  After leaving London, 8 weeks away, 8 different countries, 18 different beds, 13 flights, a helicopter ride, a sea plane ride, 10 boat rides (one of them a ferry), 2,600km driving ourselves, and 2 train rides (one rather longer than the other), our big journey came to an end.  So many experiences.  Well worth it, and interestingly we are still married after all that time together 😇😇😇😇😇😇😎😎😎😎😎😎

Sunday saw us both at Los Angeles airport waiting for flights.  I flew to London, and Betsy flew to Tampa (took her longer than planned – you can ask her why 😌).  I flew Virgin Atlantic back to London- on their Dreamliner aircraft which wasn’t bad.  It was strange to get back – having left in the middle of winter, seeing blossom on the trees, and daffodils coming through, I realised that 8 weeks had passed !

I spent Monday to Saturday there (exciting stuff to do like U.K. tax planning as I hadn’t been a resident for almost 12 years), and then flew again on Saturday.  I took the Norwegian Airlines Disney shuttle (my words, not theirs) into Orlando, and then drove to Tampa.  I say Disney shuttle due to the huge numbers of children who were on the flight due to the Easter break.  All of them seemingly drinking Coca Cola or Fanta and high on their E-numbers for the whole flight 😬😬😬.

So now we are both here in Florida.  A few days taking it easy, for jet-lag recovery, then off to Alabama for a few days – Betsy’s Birthday, and try to recover more of our belongings from our house there.  Then Linda my sister comes to visit for a few days.  We will likely then see a former colleague of mine in Florida, and we would like to spend a few days in the Florida Keys – it’ll be interesting to see what that is like after they got beaten up by the hurricane.

We will likely keep the blog going.  We have had some good feedback from those who took the time to read it, plus it’s been a great way for us to let family and friends know where we are.  Also, keeping a journal isn’t something I’ve ever done, but we’ve both enjoyed looking back at it.  I doubt this is our last trip 😌😌, so we will keep it going ! Maybe not quite as glamorous all the time, but at least it’s our way to keep in touch.
